Baking Soda in the Wash!!

You can  add baking soda to your wash for cleaners that just don't cut it. Especially with oil or grease stains, you can achieve fresher and cleaner results if you add a half cup of baking soda to the wash cycle. You can make grease disappear like magic! Also remember, if you happen to get a grease spot on your top while cooking, get out some baking soda. Rub it into the spot to absorb the grease. Then let it dry, brush away the remaining powder, and wash the item as soon as possible.

Traffic Accident

Well, Your Honor, I really didn't mean to get into a fight with the driver of the car I ran into the other day.

I was rear-ended, which caused me to rear-end the car in front of me. The driver, whom you can see is a dwarf, approached aggressively after the accident yelling, "I am NOT happy."

I decided that I would try to lighten things up and answered, "OK, I can see that, but then which one are you?"
That's when the fight started.

To clean burnt or scorched pans, sprinkle pans liberally with baking soda, adding just enough water to moisten. Let stand over night.

To get those stubborn stains off of the inside of your microwave; spray liberally with two parts water and one part bleach, heat on high for 20 seconds and let stand for about an hour. The stains should come right off. For really stubborn stains heat for 30 seconds and let sit for 2 - 3 hours.

An old toothbrush and toothpaste work wonders for cleaning jewelry.

Air freshener
Mix 1 pint of water with 1 tablespoon lemon juice or vanilla extract in a spray bottle. Spray into the air around your home to freshen. For a stovetop air freshener, place 1 tablespoon of whole cloves, 2 cinnamon sticks and 1 teaspoon nutmeg in a pot of water. Simmer uncovered for an hour or two.

WOW what weather we have had cast upon us recently especially up in the North Island.
Our home came under fire in Wainui, especially as we had no windbreak and we sit up
proudly on a hill. Our power went out early when a number of gum trees fell and took out the power lines. Anything not tied down was uplifted and deposited at our boundary fence. Our broccoli was thrashed and smashed. Our roof tiles rippled throughout the night but worse of all we only had two torches and three boys!

SOME SHOWER CLEANING TIPS

Clean the showers once a week with an orange citrus based cleaner. Spray on and give it ten minutes to dissolve the dirt. Why do all that scrubbing when your product does it for you?

OK, so the soap scum refuses to budge and friends are coming for a visit. Use your orange based cleaner concentrated. Pour plenty on an old dishrag and wipe on the walls and doors. Use can use boiling hot white vinegar (wear gloves) but you must keep applying it as the white vinegar dries. It takes time to dissolve that buildup.

Patience now becomes a virtue. Wait and wait and wait some more. Go clean the rest of the house. If the cleaner starts dripping down the walls, wipe it back on. Check the walls with a fingernail. If the residue removes easily, round one is about over.

Use a white bristle pad to scrub. They look like fibers and are glued to a sponge. Use the white ones only. The colored scrubbers are coarser and do scratch. Test a spot to make sure it won't scratch the fiberglass. Dampen the pad, keeping it good and wet and gently scrub. This removes the soap buildup and most of the white mineral deposits on the glass doors. Nothing removes the etch marks themselves, but further damage is halted. Reapply the orange citrus cleaner if necessary.

Plastic shower curtains can be machine washed. Remove, spray with your diluted orange based cleaner and wait about 10 minutes. Wash with your rags and they come out quite clean. Air dry. If the curtain is long enough, cut off the seam at the bottom to prevent mildew buildup down there.

Chocolate Stain Removal Hint

1. Mix one teaspoon of a mild ph balanced detergent (a mild non alkaline non bleaching detergent) with a cup of lukewarm water
2. Blot
3. Mix one tablespoon of household ammonia with a half cup of water
4. Blot
5. Repeat step one
6. Sponge with clean water
7. Blot

Handy Vinegar Uses

• Eliminate soap residue by adding 1 cup of white vinegar to the washer's final rinse. Vinegar is too mild to harm fabrics but strong enough to dissolve alkalis in soaps and detergents
  • DO NOT USE VINEGAR IF YOU ADD CHLORINE BLEACH TO YOUR RINSE WATER.  IT WILL PRODUCE HARMFUL VAPORS!
• To remove decals and non slip bathtub strips saturate a cloth or sponge  with hot vinegar and squeeze over decals. 
• Stick-on hooks come off from painted surfaces if  you squeeze a few drops of vinegar behind the hook
• Remove price labels by coating the label with several coats of white vinegar. Let it soak in and after several minutes the label will rub off 
• Lime deposits around faucets can be softened for easy removal by covering the deposits with vinegar-soaked paper towels. Leave the paper towels on for about one hour before cleaning. Leaves chrome clean and shiny.
• Vinegar removes deposits which clog your metal shower heads and sink aerators. Combine 1/2 cup white vinegar and one quart water submerge the shower head or aerators and boil 15 minutes.
• If you have a plastic shower head, combine 1 pint white vinegar and 1 pint hot water, completely submerge the shower head and soak for about one hour
• Since vinegar also breaks down uric acid, add 1 cup vinegar to the rinse water for babies' clothes.
• Wool and cotton blankets soft and fluffy add 2 cups white vinegar to a tub of rinse water

Window Cleaning Pack

• To improve the power of your liquid laundry detergent, add a 1/2 cup baking soda to the recommended amount of laundry detergent.
• For extra bleaching power, add 1/2 cup baking soda to your usual amount of liquid bleach.
• If your trash constantly smells bad, even when there's no food or other trash in the can, then it is most likely the can itself that smells. To solve this problem, just sprinkle a liberal amount of baking soda into the bottom of the can. Replace it whenever you take out the garbage.
• Remove stains from a coffeepot or mug by scrubbing with a baking-soda paste, water and a plastic scrubber.
• To eliminate the strong odor of onions on your hands after slicing them, just rub them together with a paste of baking soda and water.
• Moisturize your hands by adding three tablespoons baking soda to the dishwater when doing the dishes.
• Freshen up dishwasher by adding a 1/2 box of baking soda and running the machine through the rinse cycle only.
• Baking soda should last in the freezer for three months. It will still work as a drain cleaner after that.
